Lions in Sight has been a Multiple District 4 endorsed project
since 1991. It has four charter objectives, which are: (1) To serve
as Lions International Eyeglass Recycling Center for the Western
United States. (2) To provide clinic trips to developing nations to
prescribe the recycled eyeglasses to those in need. (3) To provide
used eyeglasses to Lions Clubs worldwide, and to ensure the eyeglasses
are appropriately prescribed and distributed. (4) To expand
the capability of Lions in MD-4 to provide free primary eyecare
to the needy in their districts.
Approximately 161 million people in this world are visually disabled or blind and approximately 2 billion people need eyeglasses. Unfortunately, in developing countries, most of the people cannot afford proper eye care. This limits their vision, their ability to work and their quality of life. Your old eyeglasses can literally change a life.
Lions In Sight of California and Nevada is an official service activity of Lions Clubs International. We are devoted to restoring the vision of needy patients in developing nations.
The Lions In Sight program begins with local Lions interacting with the citizens of their community. The Lions Clubs collect eyeglasses from the public and send them to our collection center in Vallejo, California. The collected eyeglasses are sorted, cleaned, processed and packaged for delivery to developing nations around the world.
Volunteer Doctors and Lions travel to developing nations bringing glasses and performing free eye examinations. To accomplish this undertaking we need your help. We depend on you for contributions of eyeglasses as well as financial contributions.
