Lions District 46 is a newly established independent district within Lions Clubs International. The effective date of establishment was July 4, 2006. The Lions Clubs in District 46 were formerly District 4-N, one of 16 Districts in Multiple District 4 (MD-4). Until the formation of District 46, MD-4 included all Lions Clubs within the states of California and Nevada.
District 46 is comprised of approximately 50 Clubs and includes all Lions Clubs in Nevada plus the California Clubs in the Truckee and Tahoe areas. District 46 is divided into four Regions. The Reno Host Lions Club is in Zone 1A of Region 1. District meetings are presided over by the District Governor who is elected at the District Convention held annually in April. The District Governor is assisted by a Vice District Governor, District Secretary, District Treasurer and Cabinet. Cabinet meetings are held three times during the year. District meetings are open to all Lions and their spouses and guests.
District 46 supports a number of service activities. The District actively encourages membership in the Lions Eye Foundation of California/Nevada. Since 1990, the District has sponsored Lions Camp Dat-So-La-Lee, a week-long camp in Elko's Lamoille Canyon for underprivileged 8 and 9 year old children. Founders of the Camp are Lions RC Barnes and Vern Heppner of the RHLC. The District has placed closed-caption devices for television viewing in homes of all deaf Nevada children and television "voice-over" devices to permit the blind to enjoy "watching" television.
The Lions Eye Foundation of California/Nevada provides no-cost eye surgeries for the needy. District 46 is putting together a "Blind Center" in Las Vegas that is designed to provide a full range of services. Co-located at the Blind Center is a satellite eyeglasses recycling center that feeds into the Lions in Sight recycling center at Vallejo, California. In Northern Nevada Lions in Sight operates the "Lion Donn Owens" Recycling Center that handles glasses from areas outside Clark County (Las Vegas). The Recycling Center is managed by the Reno Host Lions Club. |
